[O13-P04]Can troublesome plants in afforestation areas become resources? – Examining the potential uses of climbing plants and bamboo –

In afforestation areas, bamboo and climbing plants like wisteria pose problems. In particular, the problem of climbing plants covering and constricting conifer plantations (e.g., Cryptomeria japonica and Chamaecyparis obtusa)is an urgent issue. This study investigated whether these plants can be utilized as resources. Specifically, we created handmade paper and evaluated its properties. The color values showed that paper derived from wisteria wood was yellow, paper derived from bark was brown, and paper derived from bamboo was yellow. Folding endurance was lower for bamboo-derived paper than for wisteria wood-or bark-derived paper.. Moreover, wisteria fibers are thick, long, and hard, making processing difficult. On the other hand, bamboo fibers are fine and have a good texture. From these results, it was found that optimization of processing conditions is necessary for wisteria.
