[PPS03-P11]JADE2 Updates: New datasets and enhanced functions for retrieving and visualizing Hayabusa2 data

Introduction: JAXA’s Hayabusa2 mission successfully returned samples from asteroid (162173) Ryugu to Earth in 2020 and is currently in its extended mission phase as Hayabusa2#, targeting two new asteroids: (98943) Torifune and 1998 KY26. The observation data of Ryugu obtained by the Hayabusa2 onboard instruments is publicly available via Data Archives and Transmission System (DARTS) and Planetary Data System (PDS). Including this, the Hayabusa2# International Visibility Enhancement Project is engaged in activities to make scientific data open and accessible to both professional researchers and the public. We introduce the latest updates to JAXA Asteroid Data Explorer 2 (JADE2; https://jade2.darts.isas.jaxa.jp/) as of January 2026.

New Datasets: Data observed with Optical Navigation Camera (ONC), Near InfraRed Spectrometer (NIRS3), Thermal Infrared Imager (TIR), Light Detection And Ranging (LIDAR), and Mobile Asteroid Surface Scout (MASCOT) have been implemented in JADE2 first release in last year. For detailed descriptions for each instrument and each product level, users can refer to the Software Interface Specifications (SIS) and the references therein.
In the January 2026 update, we added new higher-level datasets, including the ONC I/F and reflectance Mosaic Maps (L3dm, L3drm, L3em, L3erm) and the NIRS3 thermal-removed reflectance spectra (L2D). Moreover, additional updates include new global basemap datasets with varying illumination conditions and higher-resolution data, new color maps enhancing spectral and terrain features, and other attributes, as well as new detailed 3D models of the touchdown site and the Small Carry-on Impactor (SCI) crater before and after its formation.

Functional Update: The January 2026 update also introduces new functions for viewing LIDAR 3D data, adjusting color map hues, and displaying 3D models. For the Hayabusa2 orbit display, we added a spacecraft-perspective view frame and a blinking light indicator synchronized with observation timing.

Future Works: JADE2 enables users to search and visualize data from multiple observation instruments. In the future, we plan to add data from other instruments, such as DCAM3 and MINERVA-II, and higher-level products. We are also considering extending JADE2 to the next targets of Hayabusa2 and to other missions.
