Close collaboration between scientific societies and publishers on journal publications results in high quality, trusted, and community driven scholarly communication. Such partnerships ensure rigorous peer review standards, long term journal development, and wide global reach for society owned publications. Progress in Earth and Planetary Science, published on behalf of the Japan Geoscience Union (JpGU), Geoscience Letters, the official journal of the Asia Oceania Geosciences Society (AOGS) and Earth, Planets and Space, copublished on behalf of five Japanese learned societies across geomagnetism, seismology, volcanology, geodesy, and planetary sciences, illustrate how society expertise shapes their journals into a strong publication platform in their fields of research. Springer Nature supports these societies with robust publishing services to strengthen their communities. All three journals are fully open access journals, underscoring the importance of open access in the global dissemination of their communities research.

Open access and open science are essential to accelerating discovery, strengthening research integrity, and ensuring that scientific knowledge can be reused, scrutinized, and built upon without barriers.
