[U04-10]OneMineralogy: A community of open data, AI and data science tools, and scientific discovery★Invited Papers

OneMineralogy is an emerging open science ecosystem designed to integrate open data resources, AI and data science tools, and community-driven discovery across the geosciences. In our previous NSF-funded OpenMindat project (09/2021-08/2026), we have conducted large-scale data cleansing and built machine-accessible open data services for Mindat (https://www.mindat.org), one of the largest open geoscience data portals in the world. The new NSF-funded OneMineralogy project (12/2025-11/2028) will expand this foundation into a sustainable, community-centered research and education platform. OpenMindat has already demonstrated the power of data-driven geoscience through the Deep-time Data Driven Discovery (4D) initiative (https://4d.carnegiescience.edu), engaging a global, interdisciplinary community spanning Earth, space, life, and data sciences. OneMineralogy will further advance this model through three integrated activity clusters: (1) data extension and curation to meet broader scientific needs; (2) a data science and AI toolbox to accelerate data-intensive discovery; and (3) training, engagement, and outreach to support capacity building and long-term community partnerships. By linking mineralogical data with complementary cyberinfrastructure resources in paleoenvironmental science, geomicrobiology, paleontology, genomics, and planetary science, OneMineralogy will enable new approaches to studying complex co-evolving Earth systems across deep time. The project will establish a sustained, ethical, and collaborative ecosystem that supports scalable scientific discovery, education, and open knowledge production across the geosciences. In this presentation we will demonstrate the previous success, outline the workplan of OneMineralogy, and then call for collaborations from the global geoscience community.
