SPS sintering is a method of sintering powders at uniaxial pressures of about 100 MPa and temperatures of about 2500°C, and is actively used in the industrial field of powder metallurgy. Furthermore, high-pressure SPS equipment capable of sintering at ultrahigh pressures of 10 GPa has been developed, and is beginning to be used as a means of developing functional materials in the field of advanced science. We developed a high-pressure cell to be incorporated into a commonly available SPS apparatus, and evaluated the physical properties of Mg2Si thermoelectric materials synthesized using the HP-SPS apparatus.
