Ultrafast demagnetization in Ni occurs below 1 ps and has attracted attention for application to magneto-optical devices. The magnetization switching induced by optical pulses is called all-optical switching (AOS), and has been observed in magnetic materials containing two or more magnetic elements. The AOS in each magnetic material is diverse in terms of its switching speed and the structure of the generated magnetic domain, and the elucidation of the AOS mechanism in each material is an important issue for material design. We have been studying for AOS in NiCo2O4 thin films, which exhibit perpendicular magnetic anisotropy, focusing on their chemical stability and ferrimagnetic properties at room temperature. We have investigated the subpicosecond and submicron non-equilibrium states and the generated magnetic domain structure, and observed ultrafast demagnetization of 0.4 ps and a ring-like AOS above 380 K in this material.
