Plants exposed to atmospheric conditions for extended periods change their internal structures in response to the surrounding environment. Plants susceptible to environmental stress are called indicator plants, and their condition can be observed to infer the surrounding ecological state. In this study, Optical Coherence Tomography(OCT) was used to non-destructively quantify white clover leaves collected from areas with varying ozone concentrations. As a result, the changes in the thickness of the palisade tissue in leaves subjected to ozone stress and those collected from the field showed consistent trends, demonstrating that OCT can be used to infer environmental conditions.
