Because radiation is invisible, people often have insufficient awareness of the radioactivity of familiar materials, and this is one of the reasons why the general public has a sense of aversion to radiation. In this study, we developed an augmented reality application that you take a picture of a familiar material with a smartphone camera and see a radial line emitted from the material at a frequency corresponding to its radioactivity. This study makes it possible to visualize the radioactivity of familiar materials, and makes people more aware that radiation exists all around us.
