Phase-shift interferometry is a widely used technique for measuring spectral characteristics and surface topography of objects. In this method, an optical path length difference is applied to two light fluxes, and the interference phenomenon between the two light fluxes is measured. Therefore, a phase shifter is indispensable to provide the optical path length difference between the light fluxes. Conventional phase shifters driven by ultrasonic waves or piezoelectric elements are expensive, costing several hundred thousand to several million yen. In this paper, we propose a phase shifter driven by an inexpensive and compact voice coil motor, which is used in earphones.
