When a intence laser beam is aligned coaxially with an electron beam, it acts as a rotationally symmetric electron lens, referred to as a ponderomotive lens. This phenomenon has been experimentally demonstrated in recent years using a scanning electron microscope. In this study, we explore the characteristics of a non-rotationally symmetric electron lens achieved by arranging the laser beam orthogonally to the electron beam. The aberration properties of this configuration are analogous to those of cylindrical lens systems in optics and quadrupole lens systems in electron optics.Through an analysis grounded in geometrical optics, we demonstrate that the non-rotationally symmetric ponderomotive lenses can be employed to achieve spherical aberration correction.
