β-BaB2O4 (BBO) is a typical UV wavelength conversion material, but its wavelength conversion efficiency is significantly reduced due to the walk-off effect, in which the fundamental and second harmonic waves are separated in the crystal. As a remedy, we have developed a walk-off compensating structure consisting of multiple crystal plates with alternately reversed optical axes using room-temperature junctions, and fabricated a highly efficient UV wavelength conversion device.
