In order to properly design wireless communication schemes using quantum cascade lasers (QCLs) in the terahertz band, it is essential to have a mathematical model that accurately reflects the input-output characteristics of QCLs. Until now, the rate equation has been used as a model to obtain the number of output photons P(t) in a QCL with respect to the input current I(t) to the QCL. In this study, we show that some of the input-output characteristics can be effectively modeled by expressing them in terms of an impulse response. We also verify the validity of the proposed model.
