Photonic-crystal surface-emitting laser (PCSEL) enables coherent oscillation in a large area due to 2-dimensional interaction on a singular point in a photonic band structure. Thus, we can obtain a high quality beam with high power, which can be used sensing, laser processing and so on. In order to expand the scope of application in various fields, the improvement of slope efficiency is extremely important. Recently, we found some designs that enable the increase of the number of the junctions. We report that, based on the design, we fabricated a PCSEL with a 3-junction active layer and demonstrated the slope efficiency tripled.
