This study focuses on the development of an extended-gate (EG) FET biosensor for the early detection of chronic kidney disease. To detect urea nitrogen, an indicator of kidney disease, the enzyme urease, which reacts with urea, was immobilized on an EG electrode using highly biocompatible silk fibroin. The prototype sensor showed a reversible voltage response to changes in the concentration of urea in the test solution. The effect of interfering substances on the sensor was low and it was also found to be highly selective for urea.
