Valley photonic crystal (VPC) waveguides enable efficient light propagation even in the presence of certain structural defects or sharp bends, and are expected to be applied to further miniaturization of optical circuits. We proposed and realized a topological slow light waveguide using VPC, and designed and fabricated an optical coupler by introducing defects into the junction between a wire waveguide and a topological slow-light waveguide. Next, aiming for higher efficiency, we designed an optical coupler with CMA-ES. Here, we fabricated it and evaluated its coupling efficiency.
