High-speed normal-incident optical modulators are required for applications such as massively parallel optical communications. Fabry-Pérot (FP) type modulators are easy to fabricate and demonstrations using organic electro-optic (OEO) materials have been reported. In this study, we use thin films of Au and OEO material and demonstrate 33% intensity modulation at 50 MHz, which is faster than conventional OEO-FP modulators. Higher modulation speed and efficiency are expected through device miniaturization and improvement of polling processes.
