The high acoustic impedance and complex structure of bone make ultrasonic measurements difficult. However, in this super ageing society, the reduction of quality of life due to osteoporotic bone fractures is a social problem, which requires urgent development of a safe and radiation-free bone evaluation method. In addition, recent studies have reported the necessity to evaluate bone material deterioration due to diabetes and chronic kidney disease, as well as deterioration of bone structure. In this report, the current status of ultrasonic bone evaluation is discussed considering the background.
