Azaphenalenes have attracted much attention because of their potential to exhibit TADF and inverted singlet-triplet excited state (iST) properties. However, azaphenalene based emitters exhibit poor luminescent properties because of symmetrically forbidden S1-S0 transitions. In this study, we converted the non-emissive pentaazaphenalene (5AP) into highly luminescent materials by introducing donor and acceptor segments and breaking molecular symmetry.
