The thickness dependence of the Shockley surface state (SS) at the interface between zinc phthalocyanine (ZnPc) thin films and Au(111) substrate was investigated by angle-resolved two-photon photoemission spectroscopy. The SS shifted toward higher energy with increasing film thickness even above a monolayer. A resonant enhancement of photoelectron intensity was also observed due to the direct transition from the SS to the image potential state.
