Keywords:
oil contamination,lateral diffusion,lipid bilayer
Fluorescence recovery after photobleaching (FRAP) method was used to determine the difference in diffusion coefficient of lipid bilayers depending on the type of oil used in the water in oil emulsion centrifugation method. The results showed that the oil penetration into the lipid bilayer differs depending on the molecular structure of the oil, with linear molecules such as hexadecane and dodecane having a greater effect on membrane fluidity than cyclic molecules.
