We investigated post-doped Nb–WSe2 prepared by an intermittent-flux method using HAADF-STEM, confirming Nb substitution at W sites (up to 11.3%) and the formation of MTB loops. The MTB regions are transition-metal-rich, suggesting a substitution mechanism in which surface-adsorbed Nb diffuses and is incorporated into the lattice. Lowering the Nb flux and controlling the defect density are key to achieving higher substitution levels.
