In InGaN quantum wells (QWs), introducing an underlayer (UL) prior to QW growth is known to improve luminescence properties; however, spatially resolved studies remain limited. We performed cathodoluminescence (CL) spectral imaging on a single quantum well (SQW) and a SQW with a UL. While no significant difference was observed in the spectral lineshapes, the emission intensity showed improvement in the SQW with a UL. We will report and discuss analyses of the spatial distributions using a combined approach of principal component analysis (PCA) and hierarchical clustering.
