Most of the transition metal dichalcogenides (TMDCs) are layered materials. They have been attracting much attention as novel semiconductors due to the physical properties derived from their two-dimensional structure. Janus TMDCs, which have different chalcogen species on each side of their monolayers, possess an asymmetric sandwiched structure. This gives rise to unique physical properties that are useful for next-generation device applications. Therefore, we attempted the synthesis of MoSe2/Janus SMoSe by first growing MoS2 thin films using chemical vapor deposition, followed by plasma treatment and selenization.
