In this study, we adopted solvent evaporation which is expected to be a simple and table-top method to obtain molecular self-organized adsorbed and polymerized structure of planar organic molecules. Moreover, aiming to develop a substrate which can be handled in air with an improved catalytic property, we prepared partially Au-Ag substrate. The substrates were prepared via vacuum evaporation on cleaved mica and annealed in vacuum to be well-mixed alloy films. The 9,10-Dibromoanthracene (DBA) solution was applied onto the substrate and heated. The surface structures were observed via scanning tunneling microscopy (STM) and the molecular structure was predicted using a GAMESS package. In the STM image, a grid-like pattern consist of protrusions was observed. The grid size and spacing between the protrusions were comparable to the predicted molecular size, suggesting the patterned structure is a molecular assembly.
