The 76th Conference of the Japan Society of Physical Education, Health and Sports Sciences

Greetings

The 76th Conference of the Japan Society of Physical Education, Health and Sport Sciences

Chair of the Organizing Committee

Tomohiro Kizuka

The Japan Society of Physical Education, Health, and Sport Sciences, building on the tradition established since its founding in 1950, carries out various initiatives for the advancement of its purpose, that is, “To promote the advancement and dissemination of physical education/sport and health sciences, and to contribute to the realization of individual happiness and a fair and equitable society through activities related to physical education, sport, and health.” The first of these initiatives, “Hosting the Annual Conference,” is positioned to be the most important undertaking.

The 76th Annual Conference will be held in Hokkaido. The host institution, Hokushō University, was founded in 1939 as Hokkai Dress Maker Girls’ School (Academy). It evolved into Hokkaido Women’s Junior College, then Hokkaido Women’s University, which it has remained to this day. It has continued to uphold the educational philosophy of “Love, Harmony, and Wisdom” even after transitioning into coeducation. The theme of this conference, “Contributions of Sports Practice and Science to Community Innovation: Toward an ‘Inclusive Gathering and Networking Society’ to Promote Well-being (tentative)” declares the university’s commitment to addressing contemporary challenges. We hope that diverse educators, researchers, and graduate students from Japan and abroad will gather to engage in academic discussions and exchange perspectives on these contemporary challenges.

The conference will feature research presentations in five cross-disciplinary applied research sessions by researchers in sixteen specialized fields, and will include keynote lectures, symposia, and exhibitions and events by companies, organizations, and universities. We hope these activities will provide opportunities for educators, researchers, graduate students, and all our supporters and sponsors to expand their networks. We look forward to sincerely welcoming you all to Hokkaido on August 31st.

The 76th Conference of the Japan Society of Physical Education, Health and Sport Sciences

Chair of the Executive Commitee

Tadashi Takeda

Director, Hokusho University; Dean, School of Lifelong Sport

On behalf of the Executive Committee of Hokusho University, the host institution for the 76th Conference of the Japan Society of Physical Education, Health, and Sport Sciences, I extend my greetings to you. This conference has been held three times previously at Hokkaido University, making this the fourth conference held in Hokkaido. It spans three days, from August 31st to September 2nd. Due to limited space and facilities at our university, the conference will be accommodated in two venues: the first day at the Sapporo Convention Center, and the second and third days at Hokusho University. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause and appreciate your cooperation.

The conference theme is “Contributions of Sports Practice and Science to Community Innovation: Toward an ‘Inclusive Gathering and Networking Society’ to Promote Well-being (tentative)” Through this conference, we aim to provide an opportunity to further advance the Society’s future social contributions. We hope that participants will examine, from diverse research perspectives across each session, the new challenges facing sports science in response to the rapid social transformation accompanying declining birthrates and aging populations in Hokkaido's surrounding regions and throughout the nation. Initiatives to rebuild new health and sports environments for all ages, from children to older adults, in response to these social changes have already begun across Japan. While our Society has examined these issues from various perspectives at past conferences, this year's event will specifically deepen discussions on the role of sports science in promoting inclusive sports practices and achieving individual well-being. These discussions will explore new regional sports promotion initiatives, including sports tourism, winter sports, stadium communities, regional sports policies, and health promotion, incorporating fresh perspectives from Hokkaido. The Conference Executive Committee is diligently preparing to successfully host this conference, striving to meet your expectations. We look forward to welcoming many participants and lively research presentations.
