[1D02【招待講演】]Detection and structural determination of hydrogen atoms adsorbed on a ceria surface using total–reflection high–energy positron diffraction (TRHEPD)

Structural analysis using diffraction techniques is a fundamental method for determining the precise atomic arrangement of crystalline solid surfaces, yet several challenges remain unresolved. One of the challenges is the accurate determination of the positions of hydrogen (H) atoms adsorbed on the surface. Total–reflection high–energy positron diffraction (TRHEPD) exhibits exceptionally high capability to determine the positions of atoms located on the topmost surface layer, even including adsorbed H atoms. Using TRHEPD rocking-curve analysis, we have successfully determined the three–dimensional coordinates of the H atoms adsorbed on a CeO2 surface and have further revealed that the surface sensitivity is markedly enhanced at some azimuth orientations of the incident positron beam. This will provide a key method for detecting and accurately locating H atoms adsorbed on materials surfaces.
