[2A06【招待講演】]Updating Xray Photoelectron Spectroscopy to Face Realities at Surfaces

*Iwao Matsuda1 (1. the Institute for Solid State Physics, the University of Tokyo (Japan))
We have developed operando XPS systems and investigated various interfaces of functional materials. In this talk, I will describe our instrumentations at synchrotron radiation facilities, especially ambient pressure XPS at NanoTerasu. I will also present our recent works on carrier and molecular dynamics in atomic-layer materials, such as graphene (C) and borophane (HB). Epitaxial graphene layers on the SiC substrates show distinctive carrier dynamics, depending on the time-domains. The graphene/SiC system can dynamically realize carrier accumulations in the overlayer in the gas atmosphere. On the free-standing borophane layers, we have identified reaction intermediates during the CO2 methanation and C-C coupling reactions. Seeing is believing. These experimental facts, acquired by surface science approach, provide the chemical perspectives and the physical parameters toward the real-world applications of these materials.
