[2P03]Peeling-Induced Frictional Transition of Graphene through Interfacial Contact Control

In this study, the effect of the interfacial contact area between the graphene sheet and the graphite substrate surface on the sliding friction was investigated using molecular mechanics simulation.By peeling the graphene sheet from the substrate and decreasing the surface contact area, the lateral sliding behavior at each peeling height was studied. It is revealed that, as the peeling process proceeds, the effective spring constant of the peeled sheet and the sheet-substrate interaction become lowered, which leads to the transition from the conservative- to the frictional-region. This study demonstrates the atomic-scale frictional transition mechanism induced by the control of the interfacial contact area using the peeling process.
