[2P11]Development of hydrogen-functionalized Si tips for room-temperature bond-resolved AFM

We developed a hydrogen-functionalized Si tip for room-temperature bond-resolved atomic force microscopy (AFM). While CO-functionalized tips have enabled chemical structure imaging with atomic resolution, their operation generally requires cryogenic temperatures, limiting the observation of thermally activated surface phenomena. In this work, hydrogen-functionalized tip was prepared by depositing hydrogen atoms generated by thermal cracking on Si tip. Using the hydrogen-functionalized tip, we achieved bond-resolved AFM imaging of graphene at room temperature. These results demonstrate that hydrogen-functionalized Si tips provide a practical approach for routine room-temperature bond-resolved AFM imaging.
