[2P19]Numerical and experimental evaluation of photoacoustic signal enhancement by Carbon Nanotube dispersions

This study investigated carbon nanotube (CNT) dispersions as photoacoustic signal-enhancing agents. Numerical calculations modeled heat diffusion from photoheated CNTs into a blood-mimicking medium and evaluated pressure signals using a coupled heat-diffusion/acoustic-wave model. Experiments under water-immersed and gel-coupled conditions compared light-induced acoustic responses from pure water, red ink, India ink, and CNT dispersions. CNT dispersions showed concentration-dependent signal enhancement, and CNT-derived signals were detected even in a blood-like absorbing background. CNT dispersions enclosed in a silicone tube were also detected from outside the tube. These results suggest that CNT dispersions can enhance photoacoustic signals in blood-mimicking environments.
