[2P21]On-surface formation of trinuclear cobalt-cyanoarene complexes on Ag(111)

Polynuclear metal complexes exhibit unique electronic properties arising from metal-metal interactions, while ligand-directed control of cluster nuclearity on surfaces remains largely unexplored. Here, we investigate cobalt coordination structures formed by depositing Co atoms onto cyano-functionalized molecules on Ag(111). STM observations reveal a flower-like hexameric coordination assembly as the predominant species. Based on STM analysis, we propose that this assembly contains a trinuclear cobalt core. We discuss the structural model and electronic states of this on-surface trinuclear Co-cyanoarene complex.
