[3D02【依頼講演】]Descriptors of catalytic activity for oxygen evolution reaction

Water electrolysis for sustainable hydrogen generation is currently hindered by the large overpotentials and sluggish kinetics of the oxygen evolution reaction (OER). Since highly active noble-metal catalysts such as IrO2 and RuO2 are too expensive to meet growing global demands, the development of cost-effective, multi-element transition-metal oxides is essential. This talk explores the history and recent studies of OER catalytic activity descriptors, highlighting the discovery of the highly active quadruple perovskite oxide CaCu3Fe4O12. While recent advances have proposed various rational descriptors, including metal-oxygen covalency, oxygen 2p band center, and eg orbital occupancy, the speaker will specifically emphasize the charge-transfer energy. By examining the crystal structures and electronic states of a wide variety of stoichiometric and quadruple perovskite oxides, the presentation will demonstrate how this remarkably simple descriptor accurately explains OER catalytic performance.
