[3D10【論文賞】]Ion-induced domain formation in a bilayer membrane of soybean-derived lipids

Asolectin is a crude phospholipid extract from soybeans and is widely used in cell-free protein synthesis systems for membrane proteins and for current recordings of ion channels. In this study, we found a distinct ion-induced domain formation phenomenon in asolectin bilayer membranes and investigated it using a supported lipid bilayer (SLB) system. The asolectin SLB remained homogeneous in K+-containing buffer, whereas distinct domains formed in the presence of Na+. Divalent cations, Ca2+ and Mg2+, further enhanced the domain formation. We found that the domain formation is reversible and is mainly attributed to phosphatidylinositol. Understanding these lateral lipid organization provides fundamental insight into membrane protein studies using asolectin membranes.
