Matsue is a historic castle town known for Matsue Castle, one of Japan’s last original castles, and the beautiful scenery of Lake Shinji with its famous sunsets.
Note: This summer, the climate across Japan, including Matsue, is hotter than usual, with the highest temperatures often exceeding 30℃ even in September. Please dress in light, cool clothing. Matsue often experiences rain, so we recommend bringing an umbrella with you.
Matsue is known for its local delicacies, including shijimi clams from Lake Shinji and fresh seafood from nearby Sakaiminato fishing port. Izumo soba, a unique buckwheat noodle, is another must-try specialty of the region.
