Naturally occurring organic compounds (natural products) found in MONOTORI the fundamental technique of natural product chemistry, possess a wide variety of biological activities due to the diversity of their chemical structures. Then, natural products contribute not only to drug discovery research but also to the development of chemical biology research, which seeks to understand diverse biological activities at the molecular level. Moreover, natural products and related research sometimes lead to the discovery of new life phenomena and even the creation of new research areas. In this symposium, three symposiasts, who have succeeded in discovering new natural products by MONOTORI using creative methods, will be invited and present on "Genome mining-based natural product research", "Utilization of plant resources for drug discovery", and "Natural products-inspired chemical biology toward drug discovery", respectively. We'd like to actively discuss the significance and the real thrill of discovering new natural products, and the importance of MONOTORI research in each specialized field. We hope the symposium is the place to re-understand the attractiveness, importance and possibilities of MONOTORI for young scientists, and researchers of companies, and also would like to be that the symposium promotes activation of the research area.
