Recently, various new biological phenomena have been discovered and reported by the elucidation of biological functions and the analysis of pathology, thereby, the comprehension of biological systems has further proceeded. Among them, the sulfur biomolecules have been paid attention as molecules responsible for redox responses in biological phenomena regulated by the redox. The biological roles of the supersulfides such as cysteine and glutathione per- and poly-sulfides have been reported, and their detailed analyses have been actively proceeded. For example, it has been reported that these supersulfides play important roles such as the control of protein functions and the protection from the oxidative stress. On the other hand, the development of new technologies, especially detection and imaging, is important for these discoveries.
In this symposium, the cutting-edge researches, which study about not only the direct detection of the supersulfides but also the detection and imaging techniques related to the functional analysis for these sulfur molecules leading to the progress in the next generation of pharmacology, will be introduced. We will also discuss the biological meaning of the experimental data obtained through in vitro detection technique, and Raman imaging and fluorescence imaging for the supersulfides in cellulo. We expect that the redox biology in pharmacology would further progress through the discussion about these technologies.
