Thu. Mar 27, 2025 8:00 AM - 9:30 AM UTC
Room 13 (Fukuoka International Congress Center: 402+403 [4F])
Organizer: Seiji Komeda (Fac. Pharm. Sci., Suzuka Univ. Med. Sci; Grad. Sch. Pharm., Suzuka Univ. Med. Sci.), Shin Aoki (Fac. Pham Sci., Tokyo Univ. Science; Res. Inst. Sci. Tech. (RIST), Tokyo Univ. Sci.; Res. Inst. Biomed. Sci. (RIBS), Tokyo Univ. Sci.)
Living organisms have acquired the ability to efficiently take in metal ions, which are essential for maintaining life, and utilize them as biomolecules. Transition metal ions are found in various biological phenomena, and many of the metal ions play a role in the active centers of enzymes. There is active research being conducted on drug discovery targeting these biologically relevant metals and on artificial enzymes that mimic the active centers of enzymes. In addition, transition metal ions and their complexes can control and assemble the structures of biomolecules through electrostatic attraction and covalent interaction. This symposium will discuss the latest findings on artificial enzymes with metals as their active centers and molecular assembly phenomena arising from the interactions between metal complexes and biomolecules, and consider their applications to drug discovery and life science researches in pharmaceutical sciences.
