Compared to faculties of natural sciences, excluding medical faculties, the fields characteristic of pharmacy faculties would be pharmacology and pharmaceutics. On the other hand, when comparing pharmacy to medical department, organic chemistry and pharmaceutics would be the fields that are unique to faculty of pharmaceutical sciences. Therefore, we believe that organic chemistry and pharmaceutics can take an original approach to several diseases and patients from a different viewpoint of medical department through friendly competition, collaboration and co-creation, and new intellectual exchanges between the two fields.
In this session, we will discuss with organic chemistry professors who are conducting research that incorporates the pharmaceutics approaches that directly intervene in the chemical reaction phases of life by utilized catalysts to treat pathological conditions, and/or the organic conversion reactions with a viewpoint of contributing to pharmacokinetic research and drug formulation engineering. And also we will discuss with pharmaceutics professors who are conducting research using organic chemistry, such as the development of new therapeutic strategies for refractory triple negative breast cancer by increasing the anticancer activity of phytochemicals and the synthesis of serine-modified polymer formulation for targeting to the kidneys. Taken all together, we will introduce their highlighted research cases and discuss new drug discovery and novel therapeutic strategies through the fusion in both pharmaceutical organic chemistry and pharmaceutics fields.
