The role of the pharmacist in the healthcare system is becoming more and more important. There is a strong need for collaboration not only between hospital and community pharmacists, but also between university pharmacy faculties. The backbone of pharmacy is the academic discipline of pharmacy, and there are many situations in healthcare that require knowledge and skills with a pharmacy background that are distinct from those of doctors and nurses.
Pharmacy professionals are currently developing quality work in many healthcare settings. In this context, the support of university pharmacy faculty members is needed to train the next generation of pharmacists and to disseminate evidence into clinical practice.
Chemotherapy, one of the most challenging areas of pharmacotherapy for pharmacists, will be the focus of this symposium. This is a forum to discuss future innovations in pharmacy-based collaboration to develop work that is truly useful to patients, with keywords such as regimen management, side-effect management and cancer pharmacist outpatient clinics.
