ASTEM's purpose is to "in providing relief from the anxiety of people's health-related problems", acts as a bridge between medical professionals, pharmaceutical companies, local governments, and insurers, and are developing active open innovation with different industries and academia. The theme of this session is cervical cancer prevention and awareness. Cervical cancer is often caused by people in their 30s and 40s, and there is a risk of loss of fertility and long-term sequelae. Therefore, there is suffering for patients and their families that cannot be expressed simply by incidence and mortality rates. As a preventive method for cervical cancer, regular vaccination with the human papillomavirus (HPV) vaccine, which is the primary prevention method, was implemented in April 2013. However, in June of the same year, following reports of various symptoms after vaccination, measures were taken to suspend active vaccination. As a result, the vaccination rate fell to less than 1%. After that, active recommendations were resumed in April 2022 because there was no evidence of various symptoms and the association with the HPV vaccine, but the vaccination rate was not far from the 70% before the withholding. In this session, speakers from various positions will introduce activities to promote the HPV vaccine and consider what we can do to eliminate cervical cancer.
