[S45]Interdisciplinary drug discovery research aimed at overcoming intractable diseases

Sat. Mar 29, 2025 1:30 PM - 3:00 PM JST
Sat. Mar 29, 2025 4:30 AM - 6:00 AM UTC
Room 4 (Fukuoka International Congress CenterR: 201 [2F])
Organizer: Hideaki Tagashira (Grad. Sch. Med., Akita Univ.), Yasushi Yabuki (Dept. Neurology., IMEG., Kumamoto Univ.)
In recent years, basic research at universities is being asked to address research topics that are conscious of social contribution. There are still many pathologies, including intractable diseases, for which a complete cure is not expected, and proposing pathological mechanisms and drug discovery targets is becoming increasingly important. At this symposium, young and promising researchers from the Japanese Pharmacological Society, the Physiological Society of Japan, the Molecular Biology Society of Japan, and the Japanese Biochemical Society will present their efforts in elucidating the pathological mechanisms of intractable diseases and in preventing and treating these diseases through the application of new and existing drugs. The topics of this session covered range from the central nervous system to the peripheral circulatory system, and we aim to provide a new vision for overcoming intractable diseases through cross-disciplinary research by presenting their latest research results on drug discovery for heart disease focusing on redox signals and maintaining mitochondrial function, for neurodegenerative diseases focusing on liquid-liquid phase separation, and drug discovery research using structural biology. We hope that by sharing the latest exciting data and engaging in lively exchanges of ideas, we will be able to quickly detect trends in each field and discover potential issues, which will serve as a catalyst for breakthroughs in research.
