In 2015, the Ministry of Health, Labor and Welfare introduced the "Pharmacy Vision for Patients," prompting revisions to the Pharmaceutical and Medical Device Act and mandating medication follow-up. This initiative has driven pharmacies to shift from product-focused to person-centered operations, aiming to improve the quality of medical care. However, a robust system for evaluating these outcomes remains underdeveloped.
The recent integration of information technology in healthcare has enabled large-scale data analysis, laying the foundation for quantitative and qualitative evaluations of interpersonal services. Now, a decade later, the role of pharmacists in improving healthcare quality through evidence generation and problem-solving has become increasingly critical.
To fulfill this role, collaboration among industry, government, and academia, centered around healthcare facilities, is essential. This symposium will explore the future of pharmacy through lectures by experts from various fields, discussing the utilization of real-world data (RWD) in clinical practice. The symposium aims to address how pharmacists can effectively use RWD and the challenges they may face, fostering a multi-faceted and practical dialogue on advancing pharmacy practice.
