概要
1. Background
Japanese higher education is undergoing significant international transformation through initiatives such as “Diversity with Quality” and the “International Gateway” concept. To remain “a university sought after by the world,” Teikyo University established the Global Initiative Office in 2021 under the vision of “Internationalization as Everyday Life.” However, as a large comprehensive university, challenges arose, including the concentration of internationalization within specialized departments and differing levels of awareness across faculties and campuses.

2. Teikyo Global Competency (TGC)
To address these challenges, Teikyo University established the Teikyo Global Competency (TGC) framework in 2022. TGC defines the attitudes and abilities needed for students, faculty, and staff to engage effectively with global society. It consists of three pillars: “Multifaceted Responsiveness,” “Flexible Thinking,” and “Decisive Action.” Separate indicators are provided for students, staff, and faculty members.

Students: Utilize the international environment and take on challenges autonomously.
Staff: Respect diversity and apply a global perspective to their work.
Faculty: Engage strategically in international education and research.

3. Current Initiatives
To foster and enhance the practical implementation of TGC, the university has developed several initiatives, including the following:

1). Promotion of Awareness Reform: More than 75% of faculty and staff participated in university-wide FD/SD seminars on internationalization held in 2025. According to post-seminar surveys, the proportion of respondents who regarded the university as “an international university” improved from approximately 40% to over 60%.
2). Providing Opportunities for Collaborative Learning: Taking advantage of the strengths of a comprehensive university, Teikyo University launched the Global Challenge Seminar in 2022. In this program, faculty members from different academic disciplines deliver lectures on a common theme, while students, faculty, and staff engage in online discussions across campuses.
3). Sharing Information Among Faculty and Staff: The university has created opportunities for faculty and administrative staff across campuses to introduce and share good practices related to international collaborative research and international exchange activities.
4). Data Analysis and Evidence-Based Internationalization: Internal surveys identified “heavy workload and lack of time” as the greatest barriers to internationalization among faculty and staff. These findings indicate the need for institutional systems that appropriately coordinate international activities with other responsibilities and properly reflect international engagement in personnel evaluations and incentives.

4. Future Prospects
In 2026, Teikyo University formulated the medium- to long-term internationalization plan “TEIKYO GLOBAL TRY.” This presentation reports on efforts to establish “Internationalization as Everyday Life” as an organizational culture through TGC and discusses findings from recent internal surveys.
