Keke Napep (tricycles) are an important mode of transportation across Nigeria, plying routes where traditional public transport doesn’t operate. Conventional tricycles are mostly fossil fuel-powered, posing risks to the environment and human health. In response to these concerns, electric tricycles have been promoted as alternatives. Nonetheless, there is a dearth of knowledge on the environmental impacts of conventional and electric tricycles. This study conducts a Life Cycle Assessment of both tricycle types throughout their life cycles, aiming to quantify the effects of substitution strategies and the influences of sensitive parameters, electricity mixes, and indicator-specific breakeven points between both tricycle types.
