As part of the development of safety design technology for sodium-cooled fast reactor coupled to thermal energy storage system (SFR with TES) with sodium–molten salt heat exchanger, the safety design was studied for SFR with TES focusing on the molten salt facilities. The molten salt facilities do not contain radioactive materials. Thus, the molten salt facilities are categorized as that with same safety level of general industrial facilities. Considering that contact between sodium and molten salt causes rapid exothermic reaction, a detection method and an operation procedure for heat transfer tube failure was studied. It is necessary to continuously establish the safety design policy for the commercialization of SFR with TES.
