Dams primarily designed for flood control have significant potential as a flood mitigation measure. However, current flood control operations at dams are based on observed inflow rates, and a key limitation is that operational actions cannot be initiated until changes in inflow are detected. Therefore, this study aims to utilize predicted rainfall to enable earlier and more flexible flood control operations.

Specifically, this study aims to clarify the relationship between rainfall and river discharge in the Mizunuma Dam watershed and to develop a method for predicting dam inflow from rainfall data. To date, a time lag between rainfall and inflow has been identified. Currently, in addition to a detailed analysis of this time lag, we are conducting discharge analyses using Excel to estimate river discharge from rainfall data.
