Based on "Developing a Spring-Block Model for Earthquakes Having Variable Frictional Force (Hoshi, 2023)," this study constructed an analog experimental device to reproduce a one-dimensional spring-block model. The device consists of two blocks connected by a spring on a conveyor belt, allowing for variable friction. The spring-block model is a standard framework for analyzing the natures of earthquakes. Using this device, we attempted to replicate and analyze the behavior of asperities within tectonic plates. While the complex internal structure of plate boundary asperities makes direct numerical analysis difficult, this analog model proved capable of reproducing behaviors such as earthquake swarms.
