[3B]Symposium "Engineering Education that Fosters Convergence Knowledge - Cultivating ‘Convergence Knowledge’ through Manufacturing"

Fri. Aug 29, 2025 3:15 PM - 4:45 PM JST
Fri. Aug 29, 2025 6:15 AM - 7:45 AM UTC
B room(Lecture Hall)
Moderator: Masahiro Hasuo(Kyoto University)
Manufacturing" in the industrial world is a practical field where complex constraints are adjusted at each stage of design, development, and production, and where comprehensive knowledge is applied in an integrated manner. The human resources required in such an environment are those who have a cross-disciplinary perspective, the ability to respond immediately to the workplace, and the ability to discover and solve problems. However, engineering education at universities and technical colleges provides limited opportunities for education based on the actual “manufacturing” process, and there is still a large gap between the qualities nurtured in education and the human resources expected by the industrial world. In this symposium, we will reconsider the connection between engineering education at universities and technical colleges and the practical skills demanded by industry, and discuss the ideal of practical “integrated knowledge” education through collaboration among different fields. We hope that this symposium will serve as a forum for dialogue toward the construction of a new educational model that functions as a “circulatory system of knowledge” in which the educational and industrial worlds mutually learn from each other.
This symposium is organized in cooperation with the Kansai Branch of the Engineering Academy of Japan, and is open to all participants except for those attending the conference (advance registration is required for those not attending the conference).
