[1G07]Emergent photovoltaic responses in two-dimensional materials

*Toshiya Ideue1 (1. the University of Tokyo)
In this presentation, I will introduce emergent photovoltaic responses in two-dimensional van deer Waals materials and their interfaces. Enhanced zero-bias photocurrent has been observed in symmetry-mismatched van der Waals interfaces and uniaxial strained two-dimensional semiconductors, in which in-plane electric polarization can appear due to the symmetry reduction. We also report recent observation of zero-bias photocurrent reflecting symmetry breaking due to magnetic ordering in a few-layer two-dimensional magnet with reduced symmetry. The observed photocurrent response and its characteristic behaviors can be explained by shift current mechanism or injection current mechanism originating from the geometric properties of electrons. These results indicate that symmetry control is an effective way to engineer the geometric properties and resultant functionalities in two-dimensional materials and their interfaces.
