[1C02【招待講演】]Exploration of novel inorganic solids via thin-film chemistry

We introduce Epitaxial Thin-Film Chemistry to expand synthetic flexibility in inorganic solid-state chemistry. This approach integrates the atomic-level structural control of vacuum-based epitaxial growth with versatile post-growth chemical reactions. Synthesizing unexplored phases directly as high-quality single-crystalline thin films ensures a seamless transition from chemical discovery to the direct elucidation of intrinsic physical properties and device applications. Combining physical deposition (e.g., epitaxial strain, combinatorial synthesis) with diverse chemical treatments enables us to precisely design crystal structures and manipulate electronic states. We introduce this via two recent examples: 1) synthesizing 2H-NbO2, a strongly correlated 2D van der Waals oxide, through epitaxial stabilization and nanoscale oxidation; and 2) the high-quality epitaxy and high-throughput exploration of novel multinary nitrides using combinatorial sputtering.
